I am a translator, subtitler, captioner, proofreader and researcher. I translate from Italian into English, working mainly with cinematic texts (films, screenplays, treatments), and I caption films in English.

I hold a PhD in Translation Studies and an MA in Audiovisual Translation from the University of Roehampton, and a BA in Modern Languages (Italian and Spanish) from the University of Bath. I am a member of the Galician Observatory for Media Access, a research group based in Vigo, Spain.

My research interests include accessible and translated cinema, collaborative practices, non-normative subtitles and captions, (critical) disability theory, and material analyses of production. I have written about accessible and translated cinema for academic publications and presented work at conferences and festivals in the UK and abroad.

I am currently working on my first monograph.

A close-up, black and white photo of me, Joshua, a white man with curly hair in his late thirties. I'm wearing a speckled woolen turtle-neck and black jacket, the strap of a rucksack hanging off one shoulder. I'm staring at the camera through my large black glasses, looking slightly surprised (even though I'm fairly sure this photo is a selfie).
